Greetings Families!

The big news this week is actually from last week:  Rachael Lehman has accepted the board’s offer to be the next Director at GES!  Rachael comes with a strong background in Special Education and with leadership experience in alternative educational settings.  She had broad support from the staff and was chosen unanimously by the school board. It is expected that Rachael will officially begin working at GES with the start of the fiscal year, on July 1.  Welcome Rachael!

MCA testing continues this week as 5th and 8th grades take the MCA Science test on Wednesday.  Again, a good night's sleep and nutritious breakfast can help our students do their best work!

IMPORTANT DATES & EVENTS

GREAT LUNCH UPDATE:  We are very pleased to announce that all the slots for help needed have been filled for the remainder of the school year!  As we say goodbye to Hans and Will, we say hello to Jennifer Trowbridge, who will be the daily head cook, and Christina Ridlbauer, Emily Haussner, Kristina Mattson and Brianna Schueller, who will assist throughout the week.  Thank you each, for stepping up to fill this need!

REMINDER TO PRE-ORDER GREAT LUNCH ONLINE! - A note was sent home with students today sharing the importance of ordering student lunches online. Without an accurate lunch count on the EZ School App system, it is impossible to know how many meals to prepare.  Some days only half of the students are signed up online, with students just reporting in the classroom that they are having school lunch.  This causes great stress in the kitchen, and last minute trips to the grocery store in an attempt to get the extra meals ready by lunch time.  We don't want to put our new kitchen staff in this position.  In addition, while the online signup is easy for parents, it is time consuming for Great Lunch staff to enter every student who has not pre-ordered.

THANK YOU FOR MAKING YOUR CHILD'S ONLINE LUNCH ORDER A PRIORITY!

COVID TESTING FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS - The State of Minnesota has provided free COVID-19 test kits that we can offer all Otters students at GES.  Information was emailed to Otters parents yesterday.  Please call school if you have questions, or wish to have your child participate.

ORDER YOUR 2020-21 YEARBOOK TODAY!  - Yearbook order forms were send home with students on Friday. If you did not see this form, you can still order a yearbook.  A note on your payment will suffice. The cost is $13 each.  Cash or checks payable to GES can be sent to school with students.

Photos of the week: April means MCA testing for many classrooms at GES, and what better way to alleviate testing stress than snuggling with puppies? The Otters got to spend some quality time with anti-stress puppies on their first day of MCA testing, and the presence of such sweet dogs in the school brightened the day.
As always, please call the office if you have any questions on school-related items.  I am glad to assist you!
