Video: Quarantine after Vaccine? Department of Health offers new guidance

The COVID-19 vaccine has been referred to as the light at the end of the tunnel. But it's not entirely clear how long that light shines -- a.k.a. how long a person is protected from the virus.
Both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines require two doses, which are given a few weeks apart.
So the Minnesota Department of Health is offering guidance on the conditions that must be met in order not to quarantine, even if exposed to COVID-19.
You do not have to quarantine if you meet all of the following:
- You have had both doses
- It's been 14 days since you got the second dose
- The COVID exposure is within 90 days of your second dose
"As we get more information about how long the vaccination lasts, this time period may change. But for now, the exposure needs to be within 90 days of that last dose," MDH Director of Infectious Diseases Kris Ehresmann said.
She said people also must not have any symptoms of COVID-19 to avoid quarantine.
Ehresmann said recommendations for healthcare workers are different and they should check with their employer about post-vaccine quarantine requirements.
