Duluth apartment fire ruled accidental, electrical

Just after 6:00 P.M. the Duluth Fire Department responded to 1717 East 1st St. for a structure fire.  When they arrived, smoke was seen both inside and outside the 7-unit apartment building.

According Duluth Fire, all residents made it outside.

Crews traced the fire to an outdoor electrical box which spread to several hot spots within the building. The fire has been ruled accidental and electrical.

Initial damage estimates are $10,000 to the structure and $500 in contents. All residents have been relocated for the night by the building’s property management company.

Fire crews from Headquarters, Lakeside, UMD, and Woodland responded. Minnesota Power and the Duluth Police Department provided support.

This is the fourth structure fire that the Department has responded to in four days.
