Communities across the country are finding ways to celebrate Veterans Day in their communities during the pandemic. And on Wednesday at the Knife River Heritage & Cultural Center a new flag and flag pole was raised and honored.
The Two Harbors American Legion Post 109 and the UMD ROTC cadets raised the new addition to the cultural center through a military ceremony.
Though the pandemic makes it difficult to get together, this type of dedication to the civilian and veteran communities means a lot to those who have served.
The flag and pole were donated to the Knife River Center by the Albert Wieme family. And events like this are what makes the ROTC program happy to get involved in ceremonies like this with nearby communities.
"For us to get out at an event like this especially with veterans and on days like veterans and Memorial Day it just shows that we are a part of the community,” said Major Jason Ziburski, Cadre leader of UMD ROTC. “We value our veterans past present and future.”
