Two staff members at the Silver Bay Veterans Home have tested positive for COVID-19.

A spokesperson said the Minnesota Department of Health assigned them an infection control specialist who will investigate and test.

The facility had been COVID-free until now.

"We anticipated this day would come and we are prepared for this situation and are taking all necessary precautions to keep residents and staff safe," Douglas Hughes, Minnesota deputy commissioner of veterans healthcare, said.

Residents, families and staff were notified on Monday, July 13.

There is already an isolation unit ready at the Silver Bay Veterans Home in case any residents test positive.

They say staff are wearing masks and face shields and being screened for symptoms at the start of each shift. Residents are screened twice a day.
