Beginning the week of April 20, the Cook County Recycle Center will be open to the public three days a week instead of two, county officials announced today.

Recycle Center staff will accept donations from the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays. This past week, the center was open only on Monday and Thursday.

"We appreciate everyone's patience in allowing us to achieve proper social distancing by limiting the number of people in the open bay," said Land Services Director Tim Nelson.  "Hopefully, most individuals have been able to bring in their stored-up materials from when the center was closed, which means we can achieve a more normal flow of materials moving forward."

Nelson emphasized that staff still needs to limit the number of people in the open bay at one time, and he asked everyone dropping off recyclables to make sure their items are clean and pre-sorted.

"We are concerned for the safety of both our staff and our community," Nelson stated. "Maintaining social distance and bringing in clean, pre-sorted materials are key components of that effort."
