Grand Marais Mayor Jay Arrowsmith DeCoux said the community is uniting to help the three businesses destroyed by a fire in downtown Grand Marais Monday afternoon.

Arrowsmith DeCoux was at his shop Monday when he witnessed the scary scene. He said there was a lot of smoke and knew how bad it was when he saw the rooftop of the Crooked Spoon Cafe fully engulfed.

He applauded the work of the local volunteer fire departments, saying they responded quickly to contain it.

"We're hoping that those businesses will be able to rebuild and be stronger after this but right now, it's just a very hard and hurtful time to see half of the block be just rubble," said Arrowsmith DeCoux.

Relief accounts have been opened for the businesses affected at the Grand Marais State Bank. If anyone wants to contribute, you can call or go to the bank and ask to donate to the Fire Relief fund. The bank will split the donation equally to each of the businesses affected.
