This week we are featuring two amazing women who put their heart and souls into the work that they do with students at Cook County Schools.  Meet Ali Iverson and Melissa Oberg!

What is your role at school?
Ali:  Special Education Paraprofessional

Melissa:  Special Education Teacher

How long have you been at the school?
Ali:  Two years

Melissa:  Seven years

What is your favorite part of your job?
Ali:  Seeing students succeed at things they couldn’t do a year ago.

Melissa:  My favorite part of my job is bringing people together. I love embracing uniqueness and celebrating strengths. Finding each student's special qualities and helping them utilize it is really a special experience.

Personal background or family details that you wish to share:
Ali:  I was born and raised in the Grand Marais/Schroeder area. I graduated from CCHS in 2013 then went on to Lake Superior College. I love summertime and being on the lake with my 2 year old Golden Retriever, Kona.

Melissa:  My husband’s name is Kirk and we have two boys, Adam and Lucas. We have a 3 year old red lab, Annie.  As a family, you will find us hiking in the summer or skiing in the winter. We love to find adventures and we enjoy traveling and camping.

One thing that people may be surprised to learn about you?
Ali:  I sing all day, everyday.

Melissa:  I love to dance! I can find a reason to dance just about anywhere and anytime.

Best advice you have ever received?
Ali: Know your worth and remember that self love isn’t selfish.

Melissa:
Find a way to laugh with your students every single day.  This advice has been so important because some days are really hard. Finding time to reconnect to the important things and find the good in everyday has really grounded me in building relationships with students….and of course keeps me coming back for more.

Thank you both for all that you do for the students!  The world is a better place because of both of you!
