Fall Fun at North Shore Living

Sep 02, 2019 01:16PM ● By Editor

The summer is going by quickly for residents at North Shore Living. We have taken every opportunity to enjoy our new patio spaces. New patio chairs and tables have been added to the gazebo, making this a pleasant space for the residents. The Friday “Dominoes Group” have especially enjoyed meeting in there for an afternoon of Dominoes fun and visiting.

There were many fun outdoor activities in August. One of the highlights included an outing to the Fisherman’s Picnic parade on August 4th. The weather was picture perfect, and the residents enjoyed visiting with several friends and neighbors there too.

We held our 2nd annual minnow races on August 19th to the delight of all. There was a lot of laughing, sportsmanship, (and even a bit of cheating!!), as minnows were coaxed to the finish line.

September promises some more activities on the patio, as well as some baking (time to bring out those favorite apple recipes), and craft activities indoors.

The outings in September include a visit to The Hub on September 3rd for music, and again on September 19th for lunch with our friends there. We also look forward to a fall leaf tour to Maple Hill for those beautiful autumn colors.

The monthly birthday party will be held on September 11th at 3 p.m. September birthdays at North Shore Living include: Fern Lovaas on September 21st, and Marcy Podas and Howard McKenzie on September 22nd. Come join us to celebrate with these residents. Doug Sanders will be here to play piano for the occasion, and there will be plenty of cake and ice cream too!

Music this month will feature folk music with Myron Bursheim on Sunday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. and piano music with Susan Scherer on September 18th and 25th at 4:30 p.m. We also welcome Pastor Daren Blanck on September 11th at 2:00 p.m. for a sing a long. The residents always enjoy his wonderful voice, and singing along to all their old favorites. Portage Band will again bring their country music to North Shore Living for a dance on September 21st at 6:30 p.m. Family and community members are welcome at any of these music events.

The residents want to thank our 2 student volunteers, Hattie Kunze and Wyatt Hadley, for helping out over the summer months in various activities. Also thanks to Kathy Adams, a summer resident, who assisted with the Friday afternoon Dominoes group. We appreciate all our volunteers who take time out of these busy summer months to bring joy to our home.
