This is the last week to identify and track ships using Boreal's ship spotter.  The Soo Locks will close on Tuesday, January 15 bringing an end to the Great Lakes Shipping Season.

In the next week, the Great Lakes fleet will be heading into their layover ports for winter repairs and renovation.  The Duluth News Tribune reports eight ships will be laying over in the Twin Ports this winter.

Follow this link to an article in the News Tribune highlighting what ships will be spending the winter break in Duluth or Superior.

Boreal Ship Spotter will resume when the Great Lakes shipping season begins again.  The Soo Locks are estimated to re-open in late March depending on ice conditions.  While Ship Spotter takes its own winter lay over, we hope everyone enjoying using this service provided by Boreal Community Media.
