Community members turned out in large numbers to celebrate the start of the Holiday season at several events on Saturday. Here are some highlights and photos from the various gatherings across the community.
Northwoods Fiber Guild Sale and Open House and Art Colony Holiday Sale
The annual Northwoods Fiber Guild Holiday Sale was held at the Grand Marais Art Colony with more than a dozen local artisans displaying their beautiful hand crated fiber gifts and art. There was a wide variety of fiber handcrafts at the holiday sale this year including knitting, weaving, spinning, felting, quilting, basketry, and woodcarving. Rugs, wall hangings, paper art, cards, beadwork, jewelry, felt sculptures, scarves, hats, mittens, socks, unique clothing, accessories, and other mixed media, as well as pottery were available.
Senior Center Holiday Craft Bazaar
Gifted crafters from around the area displayed their handiwork at the annual Holiday Craft Bazaar at the Cook County Senior Center to delight of visitors looking to make a dent in their holiday shopping lists.
Santa’s Workshop at the Community Center
Cook County Girl Scouts welcomed young and old alike for the annual Santa’s Workshop in a new location this year at the Community Center. At the workshop there was a shopping area for children only, a pancake breakfast, a chili lunch, bake sale, and Girl-Scout-Made crafts for sale!
And old Saint Nick stopped by to listen to the kids' holiday wish lists and to check out who has been naughty or nice.

Next door in the Art Colony Gallery visitors were treated to coffee and treats as they shopped for holiday gifts from local artisans.
