Media Release from Cook County - June 29, 2018

An initial autopsy confirms the cause of death of the 46-year-old male found Wednesday morning this week on the shore of Lake Superior east of Grand Marais, to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The deceased was from Woodbury, MN. Family has been notified. For cases involving mental health issues or suicide, identities will not be released.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of this man, as well as our responders,” said Sheriff Pat Eliasen. “Suicide can have devastating, life-long emotional impacts for those left behind and certainly affects our local responders. This was another tragic loss of life that was preventable. We encourage anyone struggling with depression, mental health or other issues to seek help; there is always another answer.”

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline can be reached at any time at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
