On Saturday, April 27, dozens of sites across the state will participate in National Prescription Drug Takeback Day, including the Cook County Sheriff's Department.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the April 2023 event collected 332 tons or 663,725 lbs of prescription drugs, and included almost 5,000 sites across the nation.

Boreal Community Media contacted Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliason, who confirmed that the Cook County Sheriff's Office (143 Gunflint Trail, Grand Marais) will participate in the event from 10 am to 2 pm.

"We do have a drop-off box located in the foyer of our building." If community members can't attend during the April 27 event, any unused prescription drugs can be dropped off 24/7 in the same location.
