The Grand Marais Film Society is getting ready for its next screenings this Saturday, March 2nd at 4 pm and 7 pm at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts.

The 4 pm family film is described by critics as “tugging at all the right heartstrings, creating a perfect life-affirming film that can be enjoyed by all generations of the family.” Another critic said, “I wasn’t ready to have my soul squelched by the sweet adventures of an anthropomorphic exoskeleton. Yet this gorgeous animation delivers more than a few profound statements about life, community and family.”

“It’s a film I’ve had on my list since we launched the Film Society in October,” said Tom Morse, Film Society board member. “The Grand Marais Film Society is a celebration of community and what’s possible when folks come together - and I think this film really resonates with those values.” The family film is sponsored by Johnson’s Foods.

The 7pm film is being promoted with a signature shade of pink that hints at what this hit film might be. “I think this is going to be a tremendously fun film to watch with neighbors and on the big screen,” shared Morse. Kirsten Wisniewski, another Film Society board member is getting started on special pink baked goods for the evening as well. This film is sponsored by Sisu+Loyly Nordic Saunas.

This is the Film Society’s first attempt at showing two movies in the same day. “We’re not sure if it will work,” said Wisniewski, “But there are so many incredible films that people are asking to see on the big screen, we wanted to start experimenting with ways to bring more screenings during our short film season.”

April will mark the end of the Grand Marais Film Society’s first season, but planning is already underway for the next one.

Tickets for both movies can be purchased in advance here.
