We’ve collected a few answers to common questions about deer regulations.

  • Youth deer licenses allow youth hunters to tag either a buck or an antlerless deer statewide, except in deer permit areas that are bucks only.
  • Any deer taken by an adult cannot be tagged by a youth hunter.
  • Make sure to check for chronic wasting disease information on the DNR website, which includes an interactive map and other tools to help you find out how to get your deer sampled, be aware of carcass movement restrictions, find dumpster locations and look up CWD test results. You can also request a CWD mail-in test kit.
  • Hunters may harvest up to three bucks per year in certain CWD management zones. Hunters can take one buck with an archery license, one buck with a firearms license and one buck with a muzzleloader license in DPAs 643, 645, 646, 647, 648, 649 and 655. This information is also available on page 76 of the 2023 Minnesota Hunting Regulations booklet
  • Please check the designation of your DPA, because some designations have changed. Some examples include: DPAs 155, 156, 159, 183, 246, 258, 266 are designated as lottery this year, and were either-sex in 2022. And DPAs 126, 131, 199 and 203 are designated as bucks only, and were lottery in 2022. Check your DPA designations on the DNR interactive deer map.
