Thank you for your support and I hope to see you on July 30.

Friends, a Peregrine and Ice Cream

Saturday, July 30 at 1:00 pm

Calling all members and potential members! Join us for an afternoon of celebrating Sugarloaf Cove with a special speaker, ice cream and an exciting announcement. The afternoon activities begin at 1 pm with a brief annual member meeting during which we will vote in our new board members and make the announcement. Following the meeting there will be ice cream and then Jackie Fallon will join us with a live Peregrine Falcon. I hope you can join us. You do not need to be a member to attend.

Annual Meeting Program: Peregrine Falcons Come and learn about peregrine falcons, what is being done right here in Minnesota to help the species and what we have discovered after 40 years of research. Jackie Fallon, wildlife biologist, master falconer, and educator for over 30 years, will be our presenter. She is currently the VP of Field Operations for the Midwest Peregrine Society and MN state coordinator for peregrine monitoring and currently manages all aspects of research at over 50 peregrine falcon territories in Minnesota and Wisconsin. FREE with parking permit or payment.

Bring your own field guide or borrow one from us! We’ll take a fun hike around Sugarloaf practicing using the guides and sharing with each other all of the things we identify along the way.

Free with parking fee.

North Shore Geology

Sunday, July 24 at 10 am

Sugarloaf beach is filled with so many amazing different rocks! Come out for a casual walk on the beach and out to the Point for an introduction to the fire and ice history of the North Shore and leave with the ability to identify some key rocks of the area, including agates and Thomsonite!

Free with parking fee.

Glacial Formations

Wednesday, July 27 at 1 pm

Is summer heating up? Cool down as we return to a time when glaciers roamed the earth! In this interactive experience you will manipulate a mini glacier to get a bird’s eye view of how glaciers shaped the land around us with features like moraines, kettles, erratics, and more!

Free with parking fee.

Control Invasive Plants on your Property

Do you want to remove invasive plants like tansy or Canada thistle from your land but don’t know how or don’t have the right equipment?

The Community Forest Restoration Shed at Sugarloaf Cove houses tools, herbicide application equipment, and herbicides that are available for anyone to use. People wishing to use herbicides must participate in a two-hour training on herbicides, safety, and invasive plants of the North Shore. If you have already attended a training session you can arrange to pick up supplies.

Training sessions are $20/person. $18 for members of Sugarloaf.

If you have already taken the course and would like to retrain this year, please complete the registration form. Cost $12 for backpack sprayer and herbicide; $10 for Sugarloaf members.

YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER on our website - sugarloafnorthshore.org

Training sessions will take place on August 4 @ 6pm and August 24 @ 3pm
