Researchers were near Split Rock Lighthouse Thursday studying some adorable subjects.

Naturalist Jackie Fallon, with the Mayo Clinic, and the Raptor Society of Minnesota went up the North Shore to band some baby peregrine falcons.

Banding the falcons provides valuable data on survival rates, how far spread the population is, and growth rates.

After the peregrine falcon was wiped out in Minnesota in the 1960′s conservation efforts have brought the bird back, and it has gone from being considered endangered to fully recovered.

Banding these baby birds will help ensure the conservation of the species.
