Brush Disposal Information from Firewise

Jun 13, 2022 02:10PM ● By Editor

GRAND MARAIS, MN, June 13, 2022 – Attention all Cook County property owners: there are seven community brush disposal sites located throughout Cook County that accept brush and vegetation from property owners. These sites are strategically located to give all county citizens the ability to reduce wildfire risk. With the weather events this spring, Firewise wants to remind all property owners they can dispose of wildfire fuels at locations across the county. There is no charge for disposing of vegetation and the sites are open all summer and fall.

To keep the brush sites open and maintained, it is important that no trash, treated lumber, or stumps are disposed of. Trash and lumber disposal are prohibited, because the burning of trash and treated lumber releases toxic chemicals. Stumps and root systems are also prohibited, because they are difficult to burn and cause inefficient pile burning.

To find the closest site to you view the interactive map on the Cook County Firewise website, cookcountyfirewise.org, or link to the map directly: Firewise Brush Disposal Sites Map.

The sign below is located at the entrance of all seven brush sites and reminds property owners what can and cannot be disposed of. Gates are locked when sites are closed. Call ahead to ensure sites are open.
