Masks will no longer be required for students and staff in Cook County Public Schools. Thursday evening the School Board of ISD 166 suspended the mask policy, effective Monday, February 28.

School leaders said the decision comes after seeing COVID numbers decline thanks to the community’s efforts in keeping transmission low.  Adding the district has seen one positive case in the past two weeks.

Everyone is still required to wear a mask or face covering on school buses and will continue to be enforced until that requirement is changed at the federal level.

The school will still contact trace and offer their “test to stay” option to minimize the number of students absent from school.

The district is asking parents to keep kids home if they are showing symptoms and notify the school of positive cases or exposures.
