Hunting and fishing are pretty popular in the Northland. And DFL Representative Julie Sandstede wants to make sure veterans and active duty military members can get out there, not have to pay for a license.

"There are so many things we could be doing for our veterans, and I'd like to be able to do more. But it's very difficult to make changes. This really resonates, especially up in this area. And for people who love the outdoors and who deal with mental health issues, this is a really nice win-win. A way of giving back to them," the Hibbing lawmaker told us.

Sandstede said it's important to start having these conversations and introduce the bill early on in such a short session.

She's requested more information about how much this potential change could cost.

When asked if national guard members would qualify, she said that would be appropriate, and expects that would be fleshed out.

If you want to follow the bill, it's HF 3046.
