A man has been charged with several felonies after he allegedly assaulted an infant in Hibbing.

Hibbing Police were called to the 2600 block of 3rd Avenue East on July 5.

The baby's mother, who had just returned from work, told police her 1-month-old baby was laying in a bed with extensive bruises.

According to officers, the 1-month-old had several bruises to the face and neck, bloody nose,
bite marks to the child’s arms.

The baby was taken to a hospital where police say a medical exam showed the child had a subdural hemorrhage, significant retinal hemorrhages and was mildly hypothermic.

Police arrested the woman's boyfriend, Jose Flores Gurno.

Gurno is currently being held in the St. Louis County jail.

He's been charged with Assault in the First Degree, Domestic Assault by Strangulation, and Two counts of Assault in the Third Degree.
