The Depot took part in a nationwide effort to celebrate trains and the opportunities that they have provided us Saturday in honor of National Train Day.

There, families had the chance to learn about the history of the railroad through exhibits, toys and even rides.

Ken Buehler, Director of the North Shore Scenic Railroad shared some history about the day.

“In May of 1869, they finished the Trans Continental Railway and that was the Golden Spike Ceremony at Promontory Point, so every year around the 10th of May is when we celebrate the completion of the first mammoth building project in this nation’s history—connecting coast to coast, keeping the United States connected and furthering Westward expansion,” Buehler said.

According to Buehler, this was the first major event the Depot has held since closing down for most of 2020, as a result of the pandemic and opening back up this April.

“We were closed 8 of the last 12 months, so to have something like this on National Train Day and have all these people—it’s great,” Buehler said.

The Depot is now open seven days a week again from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
