In Modern Western Square Dance you learn calls, not routines.  When the caller makes a call, all 8 people in the square do their part.  The more calls everyone knows, the more intricate the choreography can be.  The best way to learn calls is by taking lessons.  After completing the course you should know approximately 30 calls.  Ultimately I would like everyone to be dancing with 50 calls.  Cost is by donation.  You do not need to bring a partner.  No fancy dress or fancy footwork is needed.  My wife and I have danced for over 10 years,  I have twice been to callers school run by Caller Lab, the International Association of Square Dance Callers (yes, there are schools for callers just as there are schools for dancers.)  You can email me at [email protected].
