A successful painting starts before paint is ever applied to the canvas, with a solid concept. We will look at this part of the process by exploring what other artists have chosen to paint and why. Students will then develop an oil painting from a selection of subject matter and composition through paint application. Tom will teach students to incorporate quick sketch layout techniques done onsite, from life, from memory, or from other means. Students will also practice underpainting, blocking, and finishing painting techniques.
