Happy Hikers to Devil Track River

DEVIL TRACK RIVER – SEPTEMBER 15, 2021 We have made the decision to save the Centennial Trail hike until next year. This week the Happy Hikers will hike along the Devil Track River section of the Superior Hiking Trail, beginning at County Road 58 (Lindskog Rd.) trailhead parking lot (a few miles east of Grand Marais). We will travel through a 1937 tree plantation. Watch for scenic waterfalls and gorgeous red cliffs. We will hike 2.4 miles to the Devil Track River Bridge, a 50-foot “A”-shape bridge that was built in 1992. The canyon is deep and remote. There are campsites on both the west and east side of the river, and we will plan to eat our snack/lunch at one of the campsites. Difficulty Level: Moderate, 4.8 miles round trip. Meet at the YMCA parking lot near the tennis courts at 9:00 am. We’ll carpool to the trailhead. Suggested donation for drivers: $3. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, on a leash. WHAT TO BRING: Hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, sturdy hiking shoes/boots, hiking sticks, water, and a sack lunch. If it’s raining, the hike will be cancelled.
