Virtual Presentation and Film Screening: REVERENCE

Montreal-based Fumage artist Steven Spazuk and sustainability educator and consultant Danielle Delhaes are the creators of the Reverence series, a unique collection of works of art based on the traces left in soot by living creatures, symbolizing the precariousness of animal and plant life on Earth. Each project focuses on the plight of a living being, plant or animal at risk in a specific region, while engendering an intimate and deep relationship with Nature for the participants. Rooted in the biophilia concept, the Spazuk-Delhaes community-based artistic and creative process invites action, restoration and collaboration through the experience of art and reverence for Nature. The duo has completed two projects in the Reverence series, one with monarchs in Mexico, and one with swallows in Montreal, both captured on film by director Jean-Nicolas Ohron.

Steven and Danielle will join the Art Colony for a virtual presentation and film screening to share more about their work. The team has several future initiatives in the planning stages, including a long feature documentary on Art, Reverence and Nature as well as projects on polar bears in Northern Quebec and endangered plant species in Ecuador. The Art Colony also looks forward to participating in a 2022 collaborative Reverence project.
