“No one becomes ‘not racist,’ despite a tendency by Americans to identify themselves that way. We can only strive to be ‘antiracist’ on a daily basis, to continually rededicate ourselves to the lifelong task of overcoming our country’s racist heritage.” Ibram Kendi.

Join us for a four book discussion on what it means to be anti-racist in the United States. This facilitated conversation will cover the systematic structures of racism and what we can do individually and as a community to dismantle them.

The reading list includes: How to be an Anti-Racist by Ibram Kendi; Me and White Supremacy by Layla Saad; and My Grandmother’s Hands by Resmaa Menakem. A fourth book is yet to be determined.

The anti-racism book group will meet on the 4th Tuesday each month for four months. This group will meet over zoom for the first session.

Depending on the preferences of the group we may meet outside (keeping 6 feet apart etc) as an alternative to zoom for future sessions.

Due to availability of books, the book list and reading dates is subject to change. June 30 Book: How To Be An Antiracist – Subject to change if attendees are unable to get the book. https://www.ibramxkendi.com/

Joining you in this journey as co-learner and facilitator is University of Minnesota Leadership and Civic Engagement educator Lori Rothstein.
