DNR Hunter Education Firearm Safety Instructor Certification Class

This class is to become a certified volunteer instructor to teach DNR Firearms Safety in the traditional classroom course, the online course, and the field day.

In order to buy a Minnesota hunting license, anyone born in 1980 or later is required to first pass the DNR Hunter Education Firearm Safety Course.  That course has traditionally been taught in classrooms, but can also be taken online, and both finish with a field day.  Currently in Grand Marais the classroom course is taught to the 6th grade by ISD 166.  The instructors who used to teach the classroom course after school in April and May now only teach the field day, but too few of them remain.  At least two or three more instructors are needed to reliably offer one or two field days each year.

The scheduled training in Silver Bay is to become a certified volunteer instructor to teach the above courses and field days.  Certification requirements: age 18 or older, complete application, background check forms, and volunteer agreement, pass a background check, and be currently Firearm Safety Certified.

Save your seat at the training session and provide your name, phone no. or email address, and training date to Regional Training Officer Mike Lee by emailing mike.lee@state .mn.us.
