Drop-in Wool Washing and Dyeing

This October, feltmaker Mary Reichert will lead a three week community rug making project during her 2018 instructor residency at North House Folk School. Whether you drop in to learn how to card raw wool one time, or spend days designing and helping to felt the giant rug, there is a place for everyone in the community rug project. Mary will share her extensive knowledge of cultural traditions around felted rugs as the community works together to design and create the final piece- which will be hung in the fibers classroom on the North House campus for all to enjoy.

Wednesday October 10th, 1-4 pm
Drop-in Wool Washing and Dyeing
Free
Come begin at the beginning and learn how to wash a raw fleece. We will have a skirting station set up, as well as a handful of wool samples on hand as we talk about some differences in breeds. If you have a small bag of wool you would like to skirt and wash, feel free to bring it along. We will also have an indigo vat with pre-reduced crystals to play with. Come anytime between 1 and 4 pm.
