Service Learning Project: Sweet Heart's Bluff Timber Frame Raising

Join North House Folk School instructors Mike Loeffler and Anne Grinager to raise two new picnic shelter frames at the Sweetheart's Bluff nature area in Grand Marais. This class is for anyone interested in getting an introduction to timber framing. We will be raising two 12x12’ frames as day use shelters on the local trail system of Sweethearts Bluff. In this class you will learn about how to raise a timber frame by hand. For this project the timbers will have already been cut, we will focus on the raising of a frame. Day one we will meet at North House Folk School, and layout the safety expectations and goals of the project. Then we will transport materials out to our raising sites, and prepare the bents ( section of timbers pre-assembled on the ground). Day two we will raise the frames!

Students should come dressed to work outside (hats, gloves, layers etc), and wearing closed toed shoes. Lunch will be provided both days. No experience required.
