Woman Journeys to Antartica
Former Grand Marais resident Suzanne Gucciardo shares photos and stories about her recent journey through the Sub-Antartic Islands of New Zealand and into the Ross Sea aboard a Russian-built ice breaker. The southwest Pacific area is known for its diversity of unique plants and animals. Meanwhile, the Ross Sea is the most pristine marine ecosystem on Earth. Of course, experiencing the ecosystem means exposure to some of the harshest conditions known. Come learn about the human and natural history of Antartica and the Sub-Antartic Islands.
