Small Life from a Great Lake

Lake Superior's green stuff

Cattails and lily pads are a scarce commodity on Lake Superior, so who steps in to fill those important producers’ shoes and support the rest of the life in the big lake? Learn about Lake Superior’s green stuff – algae – their amazing ecology, diversity and beauty, and learn why they can sometimes become too much of a good thing. Scientists are seeing an increase in production in unexpected and unusual places in the Great Lakes, and a new citizen science effort is underway to help find answers to why this is happening. Come explore, wonder, and learn how to contribute.
