Writer's Salon featuring Marcie Rendon and Nora Murphy

Murder on the Red River and White Birch, Red Hawthorn: A Memoir

Please join author Nora Murphy as she discusses her new memoir, White Birch, Red Hawthorn: A Memoir. Nora Murphy tells the story of her ancestors’ maple grove that, long before the Irish arrived, was home to three Native tribes: the Dakota, Ojibwe, and Ho-Chunk. That her dispossessed ancestors’ homestead was built upon another, far more brutal dispossession is the hard truth underlying Murphy’s search for the deeper connections between this contested land and the communities who call it home. Marcie has stated, " I will read short passages from Murder on the Red River and discuss with audience the process of writing and answer questions they may have about the book. Together, author Nora Murphey and myself will talk about the processes of our writing group where as women writers we support and encourage each other to produce publishable work. Women supporting other women is key to each of our successes."
