The National Weather Service (NWS) in Duluth has issued an alert for anyone camping in NE Minnesota, including the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Friday into early Saturday morning.

Confidence is increasing for the potential for severe storms, capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, localized flash flooding (most places can expect to receive around 1" of rain, with some areas receiving up to 3"), and frequent lightning. Additionally, there is a chance of tornadoes, mainly in central Minnesota and near Duluth.

The NWS recommends that campers secure their campsite, make a plan to seek shelter if needed, have a way to receive weather alerts if possible, or consider adjusting their plans.
