Recent storms had brought four inches of rain to areas of the Superior National Forest. After checking the Pigeon River water level gauge, I saw that the river was close to record levels. The High Falls is located in Grand Portage State Park right along the Canadian border. At 130 foot drop it is the highest waterfalls in Minnesota.
Water coming over the falls produces spray where you can see the best “Mist Bows” on the North Shore. I wasn’t disappointed when I got to the falls. You could hear the roar half way up the hiking trail from the visitor center. When the sun came out the colors in the rainbow was awesome.
