How did your journey lead you to Cook County?

After visiting Cook County for many years, we had hopes of making it our retirement destination. We have been in the Subway business for over 35 years, and when the Grand Marais Subway went up for sale, we decided it would be a great opportunity to move early.

Were there any challenges to adjusting to life "up north" or was it a welcome change?

No challenges for me since I learned how to online shop  I absolutely love everything about Cook County.

Where is one of your favorite spots to go to in the County when you and Mark get a day off to relax?

We enjoy driving up the Gunflint trail, hoping to see moose or other wildlife.  Stopping at the Trail Center for lunch or dinner.

What is a surprising fact about you that many may not know?

The love I have for gardening!  Any moment I have to get in the garden, I do.  I recently found that I have a green thumb for indoor plants as well and have been keeping busy with those over the winter.

For those who do not yet know you, you and your husband own Subway in Grand Marais.  For someone considering starting or purchasing a Cook County business, do you have any words of wisdom to share?

Treat your staff with utmost respect, kindness, and generosity. They are your foundation.

What is your favorite Cook County season and why?

Spring. The waterfalls are absolutely stunning!
