Gunflint Ranger District pile burning, April 27-May 3

From Superior National Forest - April 25, 2025
Superior National Forest fire personnel plan to conduct prescribed burning operations on Sunday, April 27, on approximately 180 acres of piles in the Flour Lake and Hungry Jack area, and approximately 6 acres of piles along the Gunflint Trail near the intersection with the Greenwood Lake Road. Continued ignitions on these units are planned for Wednesday, April 30 to Saturday, May 3. Expect to see heavy smoke initially with some higher flames until the individual piles burn down.
There may be light smoke and smoldering fuels in the area of the piles for a few days after ignitions.
