An April snowstorm brought several inches of heavy snow and gusty winds to northern Minnesota this week. A Winter Storm Warning was issued for all of Cook County and Grand Portage, with the southern portions upgraded to a Blizzard Warning yesterday afternoon. The weather resulted in local schools and many local businesses and organizations closing early or completely. Schools also implemented a two-hour delay on the morning of April 3 to give the plows additional time to clear the roads.

Here are the 2-day snow totals from the National Weather Service as of 10 a.m. this morning (April 3):

  • Hovland: 15.2 in
  • Tofte: 13.1 in
  • Grand Marais (closer to shore): 10.9 - 12.2 in
  • Hovland: 10.6 in
  • Grand Marais (Gunflint Trail): 6.5 in
  • Sea Gull Lake:  6.0 in
  • Lutsen: 4.8 in
  • Sea Gull Lake: 4.6 in
