Bethlehem Lutheran Church to sponsor Free Laundry Day at Squig's Laundromat

Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais is sponsoring Free Laundry Day at Squig's Laundromat on Saturday, April 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each month, the Bethlehem Church in Society Committee selects an organization or cause in Cook County, the nation, or internationally. As part of the Mission, the church aims to raise awareness and financial support for the selected entity.
Committee member Brad Shannon proposed the idea to other members as a possible option. Shannon hosted similar laundry events before moving to Cook County. He shared that laundry is frequently something that people must sacrifice as they make tough budgeting decisions about housing, food costs, and other bills, according to the committee.
The event is free and open to all individuals and families (no businesses, please). Bethlehem Lutheran Church will provide quarters and detergent for laundry, as well as food and beverages, including coffee and morning donuts, sandwiches, granola bars, and fruit. The committee hopes that the event will expand past doing laundry and act as a connector for community members.
This event received donations from local partners, including Grand Marais Subway, the Cook County Co-op, and Squig's Laundry. Additionally, monetary donations are being accepted in the form of rolls of quarters or checks.
