Snowfall will impact two main areas today. First will be lake effect snow in Ashland and Iron counties, with the highest totals in Iron county up to 11 inches. The second is possible snow squalls north of the Iron Range this afternoon into this evening. These will lead to visibilities lowering quickly in a short distance due to falling and blowing snow.
Strong winds, lake effect snow, and snow squalls are expected today, mainly this afternoon and evening. Lake effect snow will lead to additional snow accumulations anywhere from 4 to 11 inches in Ashland and Iron Counties. Snow squalls are possible north of the Arrowhead this afternoon.
Storm and heavy freezing spray warnings are in effect for Lake Superior on Wednesday and Thursday, with dangerous conditions expected due to strong northwest winds and large waves.
