Update: Winter Storm Warning for Southern Cook County, Grand Portage, North Shore

A clipper system will bring 2 to 7 inches of snow to the Minnesota Arrowhead this afternoon and tonight. Elsewhere, less than 2 inches of snowfall is expected. Snowfall rates are forecast to be highest this afternoon and evening, which could impact evening commutes. 

Southern Cook- Including the cities of Grand Marais

WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO MIDNIGHT CST TONIGHT FOR SOUTHERN COOK COUNTY.

* WHAT...Heavy snow is expected in southern Cook County. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 7 inches, locally up to 8 inches in far eastern Cook County.

* WHERE...Southern Cook County. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Grand Portage Reservation.

* WHEN...From 2 PM this afternoon to midnight CST tonight.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions, including parts of Highway 61. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday evening commute.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Localized areas near and east of the city of Grand Marais are expected to see high snowfall rates around 1 inch per hour after 2 PM this afternoon and lasting into the early
evening hours today.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Travel could quickly become hazardous in southern Cook County, especially along parts of Highway 61 in southern Cook County. Call 5 1 1 or visit www.511mn.org for Minnesota road information.

Within the areas of 1 inch per hour snowfall rates, rapid reductions in visibility to 1/2 mile are possible. Slow down and leave extra space between vehicles during the evening commute.
