On October 1, 2024, a small grass fire was reported around 12:50 pm on Moose Mountain in Lutsen, just below the Summit Chalet. The Lutsen Fire Department, Minnesota DNR, and the US Forest Service Fire Crew arrived on the scene and were able to suppress the fire by around 4:00 pm that afternoon.

Boreal Community Media reached out to Lutsen Mountains who released the following statement:

"For the safety of our guests, we initiated an evacuation of all guests from the mountain. With the outstanding efforts of our staff, our staff was able to contain the fire and get it under control. This quick response allowed us to rescind our evacuation procedures and resume normal operations for our guests."

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental. No other information is being released at this time.

This fire is the latest in a series of reported wildfires in the area, caused by continuing drought, low relative humidity, and gusty winds. Burning restrictions remain in place in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and NE Minnesota.
