The growing season has begun: the National Weather Service will now issue frost/freeze advisories for cold weather

As of May 7, 2024, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Duluth will officially start issuing freeze watch/warnings and frost advisories when cold weather is in the forecast.
Due to a mild winter and spring with plenty of rain, northern Minnesota's plants and trees have started to sprout and bud with new growth over the past couple of weeks.
According to Climate.gov, the average last frost date for Cook County and Grand Portage lands within the last two weeks of May.
