On November 21st, 2023, at 7:01 pm, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to the 9200 Block of Range Line Road, in rural Morcom Township, west of Cook, due to a reported structure fire.  Upon local fire departments and law enforcement arriving, a trailer house was found to be fully engulfed.

The owner of the residence was contacted and he returned home.  At this time, the fire does not appear to be a criminal act but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.  The Red Cross was called, to assist with finding the homeowner a place to stay.  Unfortunately, three dogs perished in the fire.  A fireman on scene was treated by the Cook Ambulance Service, for smoke inhalation.  

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Bearville Fire Department, Evergreen Fire Department, French Township Fire Department, Cook Fire Department, and the Cook Ambulance Service.  The State Fire Marshall's Office was also notified.
