An Ely man allegedly shot his girlfriend's phone, engaged in a standoff with officers, set a fire in his house, and led police on a pursuit before he was arrested, charges say.
At one point, 49-year-old Jason Gillson exited his home with a shotgun in his hands before he threw it to the ground following commands from law enforcement. He then fled from police both by vehicle and on foot.
Gillson is also accused of spitting at an officer once he was under arrest.
According to the criminal complaint:
Officers were notified of a domestic situation on Wednesday around 10:06 a.m. at a residence on E. Boundary Street. Gillson was reportedly screaming at his girlfriend when she called. Upon arrival, police found a woman sitting on the back steps, with broken glass all over the steps and an axe next to her.
The woman spoke with police, saying she was attempting to get clothes from the home. The victim said Gillson "had been drinking and was angry," alleging that Gillson at one point "grabbed her by the shoulders and hair and threw her out of the house."
