From the Grand Marais Arts Colony - April 27, 2023
Celebrating thirty-two years on the shore of Lake Superior, the Grand Marais Arts Festival is a celebration of fine art, attracting over 8,000 visitors to the harbor community. In 2023 the Art Colony will host 60 juried artists.
Having temporarily hosted the event at Cook County Schools, due to road construction on Highway 61 and ongoing COVID-19 social distancing, the festival will return to the downtown corridor in 2023. Artists will set up between Broadway and 1st Avenue and on 1st Avenue south of Wisconsin Street. Parking and traffic will remain open on Wisconsin Street to 1st Avenue and on 1st Avenue from Wisconsin to Highway 61.
The Festival will be held on Saturday, July 8 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and on Sunday, July 9 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The Grand Marais Art Colony is a member-supported nonprofit that has been a catalyst for the arts, artists, and arts learners since 1947. Beyond organizing the annual Grand Marais Arts Festival, the Art Colony hosts classes in seven different media, catering to all skill levels, as well as artist residencies, exhibitions, and the biennial North Shore Readers and Writers Festival in November of 2023.
