The Minnesota Department of Transportation is looking to clean up traffic and improve safety, as it looks to redesign the congested London Road.

“Last year, we put out a survey to all the public, anybody who wanted to participate. And we asked them, what is wrong with this corridor, what needs to be fixed?” says Pippi Mayfield, Public Engagement and Communications Director of MNDOT.

The area has been congested for quite some time and MNDOT has been attempting to gain community support regarding the issue. As stated, a survey was sent out earlier. The goal ultimately is for the 2025 London Road Project, a project aimed at making roads safer and have easier accessibility.

“We are proposing the roundabouts. We’re proposing some left hand turn lanes. We are proposing pedestrian crossing enhancements at a bunch of intersections,” Pippi continues.

The goal now more than ever is to provide safe access to those pedestrians walking. A lot of events take place during the summer so crossing seems to be difficult near 60th Avenue as well as Superior Street.

MNDOT is hosting public meetings, both in person and virtually, October 11th at 5:30 PM at Glensheen Mansion and October 12th at 5:30 online virtually, for members of the community to voice their concerns and opinions.
