On Thursday, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz ordered flags to be flown at half-staff at state buildings to honor the passing of the United Kingdom’s Queen Elizabeth II.

The governor’s public release also encouraged private citizens and businesses to lower their flags to half-staff.

President Joe Biden issued a similar proclamation earlier Thursday that ordered the flags of federal facilities, military bases, embassies and Navy ships to half-staff or half-mast.

Flags will return to full-staff “at sunset on the day of [Queen Elizabeth II’s] interment.”

The governor is expected to make a second order for half-staff flags in remembrance of the 9/11 terror attacks in the coming days.
