From the Cook County Sherriff's Office & Public Safety - August 3, 2022

On August 2, 2022, at approximately 11:32 pm, a call of a structure fire was taken by Cook County Dispatch. When responders arrived, they found a cabin on Croftville Road to be involved. The people who were staying in the cabin had safely evacuated but lost some of their clothing and possessions in the blaze.

Cook County Deputies arrived and began notifying the people in adjacent homes nearby to be ready to evacuate in case the fire began to spread. The Grand Marais Fire Department and Maple Hill Fire Department responded and successfully extinguished the fire.

Other responders included Grand Marais First Responders, Grand Marais Public Utilities, and North Shore Health Ambulance.

At this time no cause has been determined for the fire and nobody was injured. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend thanks to all of the responding agencies, and especially to the unknown person who arrived immediately and turned the propane off at the tank.
