A man was airlifted to a hospital with severe burns after a house fire Wednesday evening in Rice Lake.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, fire broke out around 6:30 p.m. on the 3900 block of W. Tischer Rd.

Deputies say they arrived to find a 33-year-old man lying on the deck of the house with severe burns throughout his body.

They moved the victim to the backyard as the flames overtook the home.

The man was taken to Essentia in Duluth and then airlifted to a Twin Cities hospital.

No word on his condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but is not believed to be suspicious.
